Te Kura o Hāpuku

 
Our Foundation
These four pou strengthen everything we do at Te Kura o Hāpuku. They are visible in every karakia, every kaupapa, and every uri voice.
 
Together, they uphold the wairua of our kura andguide our collective path to tino rangatiratanga.

 

 

 

 

 

POU 1: MANAAKITANGA

Uplifting and Careing for Others

Whakamārama:

Manaakitanga means showing aroha, hospitality, respect, and care for others. It is the heart of our kura.

How it lives at Te Kura o Hāpuku:

  • Teaching & Learning: Uri support each other in the classroom and create a safe, inclusive learning space.
  • Hauora: Shared parakuihi, daily routines like taitai niho, and caring for one another's wellbeing.
  • Governance: Decision-making is whānau-focused and mana-enhancing.
  • Operations: All visitors are welcomed warmly, and kura events reflect aroha and hospitality.

 

 

 

 

POU 2: TUAKIRITANGA

Identity and Belonging

 

Whakamārama:

Tuakiritanga is knowing who we are, where we come from, andtaking pride in our whakapapa, reo, and tikanga.

How it lives at Te Kura o Hāpuku:

  • Teaching & Learning: Curriculum includes iwi/hapūnarratives and local history. Reo ō te kainga is prioritised.
  • Hauora: Daily pepeha, karakia, waiata, and roles likekaihuatū build confidence and identity.
  • Governance: Strategic direction protects our specialcharacter as a kura ā iwi.
  • Operations: Visuals and routines affirm our whakapapaand mana.

 

 

 

 

POU 3: KAITIAKITANGA

Guardianship and Responsibility

 

Whakamārama:

Kaitiakitanga is our duty to protect and care for ourenvironment, our tikanga, and each other.

How it lives at Te Kura o Hāpuku:

  • Teaching & Learning: Uri engage in māra kai, pest control, and rongoā learning through Mana Motuhake kaupapa.
  • Hauora: Respectful and clean environments are part of daily hauora practice.
  • Governance: Decisions consider long-term environmental and cultural sustainability.
  • Operations: We practice zero waste, local kai use, and environmental action.

 

 

 

POU 4: RANGATIRATANGA

Leadership and Self-Determination

Whakamārama: 

Rangatiratanga is about leading with integrity, asserting ourmana motuhake, and making decisions for ourselves.

How it lives at Te Kura o Hāpuku:

  • Teaching & Learning: Uri take on leadership roles and co-create learning journeys.
  • Hauora: Encouraging independence, responsibility, andvoice in wellbeing.
  • Governance: Poumarumaru lead with tikanga and upholdthe kura ā iwi vision.
  • Operations: Leadership is shared among uri, kaimahi, andwhānau.
